I am a little biased writing this piece on Toronto Family Doulas for this week’s Women in Business Spotlight. I have used their services over the last 2.5 years and have nothing but amazing things to say about their company and staff! This post is not sponsored at all, I wanted to share the love for this company since I had such a positive experience and hoping that if you choose them for your pre/post natal needs, that you will too!
So, who are the women behind Toronto Family Doulas?
I would love for you to meet Meaghan Grant and Alexandra Weinberger, the Owners and Certified Doulas themselves. Alex and Meaghan met in 2015 where their values, philosophies and vision came to life into what we now know as one of the fastest growing doula agencies in the Greater Toronto Area.
“Toronto Family Doulas grew out of a desire to see families get the support they needed for ALL of their birthing and parenting choices. With a foundation of non-judgemental and professional support, TFD strives to provide the kind of support everyone wishes they had during such a transformational time in their lives.”
– Meaghan Grant, Certified Doula & Co-Owner of Toronto Family Doulas

Alexandra Weinberger, Founder + Co-Owner
Alex is a certified Birth Doula, Postpartum & Infant Care Doula, Childbirth Educator, Infant Feeding Specialist, and Car seat Passenger Safety Technician. Alex is also a certified Doula Trainer for ProDoula, and trains birth and postpartum doulas all over Canada and The United States of America. She has been working as a doula for over a decade and loves supporting new parents during the newborn period. She believes that the early weeks and months of parenting could be so much easier if families had doula support.

Meghan Grant, Co-Owner
Meaghan has been a doula since 2013 and is certified as a Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Infant Feeding Specialist, and Car seat Passenger Safety Technician. She has a passion for childbirth education, believing that preparing for birth and parenting doesn’t have to be scary. She became a doula after becoming a mother and witnessing the fighting and judgment that can be so common. Believing that all new parents should have the time, space, and support to have the birth and parenting experience they are hoping for, Meaghan focuses on helping families to make the best choice for themselves.
I love that their company is truly a reflection of who they are as individuals. This company has a strong mandate of inclusivity, living wages and non discrimination. They serve all families and focus their hiring on team members with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
As I know first hand, they have an ability to match their staff with their clients flawlessly. Throughout both of my pregnancies, labour and post partum care I was supported by my doula team and was so impressed with their level of knowledge and compassion.
What is a Doula?
A doula is a professional and highly-trained support person who helps new and expectant parents navigate through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. This is not to be confused with a midwife, who physically delivers the baby, while providing medical care. There are two categories of doulas: birth doulas and postpartum doulas.
Depending on what you need, Toronto Family Doulas has different packages that you can choose from. In my situation, I wanted prenatal, labour and post partum support. I also took their private prenatal classes in the comfort of my living room and was really impressed with the quality of education we received.
Are All of the TFD Doulas Certified?
There are a variety of doula training organizations out there and at Toronto Family Doulas, all of their doulas are trained at an in-person training from a credible training organization. Their doulas are trained by one or more of ProDoula, DONA, Birthing From Within, and CAPPA.

What kind of Services does TFD Offer?
They offer a variety of different packages for birth, post partum, education as well as feeding consultations, belly binding, birth planning and post partum planning sessions.
Within the birth packages, you will be offered guidance on :
- What is normal
- When to reach out to your care provider or go to the hospital
- Ways to be more comfortable during your pregnancy
- A listening ear or shoulder to cry on (pregnancy can be hard!)
- Information or access to resources as you make plans and decisions
- Coping with pain and positional support during your birth
- Unbiased and non-judgmental support
- What to expect in the first days and weeks with a newborn
There is so much more that the doulas provide to you and this is just a snapshot from their website information.
For me, the biggest thing about having my doula team was the comfort I had during the birthing process. Being in labour is scary as you don’t know what the fuck is happening to your body. But my doula (who happened to be Meaghan) was AMAZING. I will write a full post on my birth story and link it back here eventually, but feel free to email me or DM me on Instagram personally if you want details now!
The postpartum care I also received was fantastic. I dont have family that lives close to me and I also lost my mother when I was 19, so I basically was left to figure out what to do with a newborn on my own (and with Phil’s help obviously). So, with the circumstances we were in, it was great to have the doulas stop by a few times and reassure me that I was breastfeeding correctly, sleeping, and all of the other wtf moments we were experiencing.
With my second daughter, we also had post partum care which was just great companionship. Kaitlin (the other Certified Doula on my team) came by a few times to just help with Felipa, my very active toddler! It was great. I could focus on feeding Lola and getting some work done while she watched the girls and we also had coffee and chatted a lot about parenting!
“At Toronto Family Doulas we believe that every family has their own journey to parenthood. No matter who you are or what your journey to pregnancy and parenting has been, our doulas are ready to provide you with the customized support you are looking for! Our trained and certified doulas are experts in pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, baby care, and more!”
